Title: Printer is not showing up on a remote desktop login.

Setup: Windows Server Enterprise SP2 R2 with terminal server role running. Connecting from Windows XP with built in remote desktop software.

Question: When connecting to a terminal server the printer connected locally will not show up. The printer is properly installed and works on the local computer and/or even another locally connected printer shows on the server but not the other.

Solution: On the server, download the latest drivers available for the printer for Windows 2003 and/or Windows XP. Open the server manager and add the role printer server. In the server manager you should now be able to click "Add a printer driver" under the print server section. Follow the steps to add the driver onto your server. Reconnect your remote desktop and the printer should now be visible and available for printing.

Notes: Most old printers show up automatically and do not need theese steps simply because they are already included in the standard driver library for Windows Server 2003. There might be a problem bringing a multi function printer with the remote desktop connection that is not connected to a LPT, USB or another normal printer port on the local computer. Such as DOT4 or special ethernet ports.
